OBJECTIVESThe study was carried out to design an efficient sorbent product out of locally available, organic materials as aid in reducing oil spill.
Stated below were the specific objectives of the research:
1. To test if the sorbent pillow can be an efficient oil spill clean-up agent in terms of dynamic oil retention time and oil sorption capacity
2. To determine the prescribed quantity of coco husk (CH) and activated carbon (AC) in the sorbent pillow to most effectively clean-up oil spill, given the formulations:
a. 75% CH – 25% AC b. 50% CH – 50% AC
c. 25% CH – 75% AC
CONCLUSION
The tests showed that the Organic Sorbent Pillow can be an efficient oil spill clean-up agent in terms of dynamic oil retention time and oil sorption capacity. Moreover, set-up C which has 25% coconut husk- 75% activated carbon formulation, can absorb the greatest amount of oil among the three formulations while set-up A which has 75% coconut husk – 25% activated carbon formulation, has the least amount of oil absorbed. Also, the Sorbent Pillows sorbed oil with a greater speed than the Polypropylene Pad as found with the test of dynamic oil retention time.
nice. keep on working. :)
